National Crayon Day is an annual celebration of art and creativity, but it can also be a reminder that it’s time to “go green” with crayons. Every year, sixty tons of crayons are manufactured, and millions of pounds of crayons are discarded throughout the U.S. Wax crayons are made up of petroleum, a chemical that is toxic to our environment. If we don’t recycle them, they eventually end up in our landfills and never biodegrade. Let's learn how we can help reduce toxic waste on the planet by recycling old crayons!
The Crayon Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing this waste by melting down old and broken crayons and transforming them into new ones. It takes about a pound of donated crayons to create five packs of specially molded crayons for 0ver 240 Children's Hospitals around the United States. This helps to bring happiness to children who are facing the stress of hospitalization due to their medical conditions by giving them the freedom that comes with creative play.
Xpress Dumpster Rentals has partnered with The Crayon Initiative in order to provide our local community with an easy way to help reduce toxic waste on the planet - recycling old crayons! We are collecting used crayons from our local community and giving them a place to donate their unwanted crayons so they can be repurposed instead of going into landfills or ending up as toxic waste in our environment. We believe this effort will help make a difference in our community and beyond!
